Former Cobourg Cougars standout Justin Danforth will make his NHL debut Monday night for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Danforth, now 28, played for the Cougars from 2010-2013 before playing four years of NCAA hockey for Sacred Heart University and then gaining AHL experience with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and Rochester Americans and seeing ECHL action with the Reading Royals and Cincinnati Cyclones.

Danforth went on to become a top player in Finland with Lukko Rauma for two seasons and spent last year with Podolsk Vityaz of the KHL before signing with the Blue Jackets in May.

On Sunday, the Oshawa native was recalled from the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters after registering two goals and three assists in eight games.

The Blue Jackets announced Monday that Danforth will be in the lineup when they face the Detroit Red Wings this evening.
