Third Annual Port Hope Pumpkin Parade Best Ever

In Community, Editor Choice, Local, Photo Gallery

The third annual Port Hope Pumpkin Parade took place on November 1, 2021 along Lent’s Lane starting at 6 p.m.

Pumpkins were dropped off beforehand and volunteers including members of the Port Hope Panthers lit the pumpkins one by one for the perfect evening to enjoy the carvings one last time.

The event was sponsored by Critical Mass and our Great Pumpkin Parade leader, Barbara Bell, who started the project three years ago.

Critical Mass Program Direction, Debbie Beattie estimated approximately 1,500 people came out to view the approximately 500 “creepy and spooky designs.”

“Tonight we get to see the communities creativity come together.”

Families have been coming out every year starting a fun family tradition.

The free community event was inspired by parades that began in Toronto in 2004 (50+ Parades to date) and have rapidly spread to Vancouver, Montreal, Peterborough, Kingston, Oshawa, Newmarket, Stratford, Regina, Burnaby, St. Johns, Manhattan and recently Bowmanville and Port Hope.

Hot chocolate was provided courtesy of FBC volunteers.

At the end of the evening, local farmers are invited to gather up pumpkins for feed and all remaining pumpkins will be taken away and composted courtesy of Harnden Haulage. Facilitated by the Municipality of Port Hope.
