Lakefront Utilities Inc. Reviews Cause of Power Outage

In Local

October 15th, 2021– Cobourg, ON – At 1:44AM, on October 15th, there was a power outage impacting approximately 3,300 customers of Lakefront Utilities Inc. (Lakefront) in the Town of Cobourg.

Lakefront’s Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) and SmartMAP software notified operation crews and they were dispatched immediately. Due to the heavy rainfall, recloser R101 sensed a fault downstream and opened, causing the outage in the west end of Cobourg.

Operation crews patrolled the area, searching for any signs of damaged equipment or animal interference; however, there were no visible signs.

Once crews completed the patrol of all areas and determined that it was safe to close switch R101, the power was successfully restored to all 3,300 customers at 2:43AM.

Further investigation is ongoing to determine the actual cause of the outage.

“Lakefront would like to thank our customers for their understanding and support, while our dedicated crews work safely during storms and heavy rainfalls to restore power quickly. We continue to invest in local infrastructure to improve upon the reliability of our system for our community,” commented Dereck Paul, President and CEO of Lakefront Utilities Inc.

Lakefront Utilities is proud of its achievements as a locally owned utility and remains committed to providing reliable services that contribute to the comfort and safety of the community. Our reliability statistics continue to exceed industry standards. More information can be found at https://www.lakefrontutilities.com/financial
