Cobourg Councillor Helps Out With Period Promise

In Local

Cobourg Councillor Adam Bureau dropped off supplies at the Cobourg Public Library on Tuesday, May to help out with United Way Northumberland and Thrive Period Promise.

Period Promise Northumberland aims to tackle period poverty in our community while collecting and distributing hygiene products to those in need locally.

In Canada, almost one-quarter of Canadian women say they have struggled to afford menstrual products for themselves or their children.

Since it launched one year ago, Period Promise Northumberland has distributed more than 5,000 products to individuals and non-profit organizations in the community.

The campaign runs from May 6 to June 3 with May 28th, being World Menstrual Hygiene Day.

Northumberland United Way Manager, Communications & Engagement, Maggie Darling said, “it’s been amazing so far. Even with the stay-at-home order and some of the issues we ran into along the way with those restrictions the support of the community has been incredible.”

Adam Bureau said he mentioned it to Shoppers in downtown Cobourg and they immediately jumped on board donating a number of products.

“This is what I love about Cobourg. If there is a problem or an issue, the community comes together to help out one another.”

In response to the stay-at-home orders, people can donate at one of our safe drop-off locations:
