Kawartha Lakes OPP – Traffic Complaint Leads to Drivers Arrest

A traffic complaint received by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) resulted in the arrest of the driver for several offences.

On May 11, 2021 an OPP officer responded to a traffic complaint related to a vehicle being operated at a high rate of speed on Highway 35, North of Coboconk. The officer located the vehicle and the ensuing investigation revealed the presence of alcohol and cannabis in the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, the driver, Niklas Savoie , 18 years of age, of Coboconk, was arrested and charged with the following offences:

Race a motor vehicle – excessive speed, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Driving a motor vehicle with liquor in open baggage, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act

Failure or refusal to comply with demand, contrary to the Criminal Code

The vehicle was towed from the scene. The accused party is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on June 2, 2021.
