Update – Accessible Parking Issue Will Be Resolved After This Weekend at Northumberland Mall

In Local

There will be no doubt where not to park at Northumberland Mall after this weekend.

Management stated they would be painting a small area between two accessible spots outside Metro to make it visible where not to park.

On Thursday, April 22, 2021 a Cobourg woman was blocked from entering her accessible van outside Metro after a vehicle parked in the spot next to her.

Carol Anne Judd said it was the third time in a row it has happened to her in the parking lot.

Northumberland Mall Property Manager Paul Kiidumae said administration was aware of the issued and has been waiting for warmer weather to paint hash lines.

“Unfortunately, we cannot rely on the drivers’ common sense alone to see that this is not a parking stall,” said Kiidmae.

“We have been waiting for the ground to warm up prior to painting the hash lines so that the paint would stick properly.”

“We do have the work lined up for this weekend though and hopefully this will resolve the issue.”

Judd said she appreciates the response from Northumberland Mall and hopes painting the area will resolve the issue.
