City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – Seize More Than 2,000 Cannabis Plants

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a Cannabis Act (CA) related warrant that interrupted the illegal production of cannabis at a local residence.


On March 23, 2021 the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), with assistance from the Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a CA related warrant at a residence on Hickory Beach Road that resulted in the seizure of 2 428 cannabis plants in various states of growth.


Huanya SUN, 36 years of ag e, of Markham, was charged with the following offences:


Cultivate, propagate or harvest more than four cannabis plants, contrary to the Cannabis Act (CA)


Possession for the purpose of distributing, contrary to the CA


Dang Hon Xiong, 50 years of age was charged with:


Cultivate, propagate or harvest more than four cannabis plants, contrary to the Cannabis Act (CA)


The accused parties are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on May 20, 2021.

The Ontario Fire Marshalls office also attended the residence to conduct an investigation in relation to fire infractions.
