CFB Trenton – 2 Air Movements Squadron Welcomes New Commanding Officer

Members of 2 Air Movements Squadron welcomed their new Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel (LCol) Tony Johnson during a small private parade held at 8 Wing Trenton on Thursday, March 25, respecting Public Health Measures.


LCol Johnson assumes his position from LCol Brandon Sing who has commanded the squadron for the past two years. No stranger to 8 Wing, LCol Johnson was the Mobile Air Movements Officer at 2 Air Mov Sqn in 2010 as well as Deputy Commanding Officer in 2011.

Throughout his military career as an Air Logistics Officer, LCol Johnson has occupied positions in Canada with 17 Wing, 8 Wing, and Canadian Forces Logistics Training Centre. He also spent over 14 months deployed as part of Canada’s contribution to the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan and was assigned to United States Southern Command J4 Directorate, where he deployed to Colombia and Guantanamo Bay in support of U.S. commitments in that area of operations. Prior to becoming the Commanding Officer of 2 Air Mov Sqn, he was assigned to United States Transportation Command at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illinois.


LCol Johnson is a recipient of the Defence Meritorious Service Medal, a graduate of the Canadian Joint Command Staff Program and U.S. Army Logistics University. He holds a Project Management Professional designation, an MBA from Royal Roads University and a Masters in IT.

· 2 Air Movements Squadron supports almost all major deployments and exercises by the Canadian Armed Forces.
· -An average of 40 million pounds of freight and 42,000 passengers are processed through 2 Air Movements Squadron annually.
· In addition to the constant airlift support at 8 Wing, 2 Air Mov Sqn maintains a deployable capability with four, 10-person Mobile Air Movements Sections (MAMS). Deployments in Canada and abroad serve to prepare these teams in preparation for any contingencies or wartime operations.
