SIU terminates investgiation/Pedestrian struck by truck mirror/Hostage taking ruled unfounded

SIU terminate investigation into Port Hope Officer’s arrest of young person.

The Special Investigations Unit has terminated the investigation into an arrest April 6th of a young person. The SIU invoked their mandate and conducted an investigation into the arrest however SIU Director Tony Laparco terminated the investigation because the injuries sustained during the arrest were not considered serious. Police were affecting an arrest of a person who was causing a disturbance and wanted on outstanding warrants. The person was also believed to be in possession of a weapon.

Pedestrian struck by truck mirror while walking.

A 37 year old woman was treated for injuries after she was struck by the side mirror of a dump truck. The incident occurred on May 25th 2018 shortly before 9:00am. The woman was waking south bound on Mill Street north of Robertson Street/Peter Street area. She was walking close to the curb when the dump truck attempted to pass a stopped school bus that was waiting to turn left on Peter St. The large side mirror protruded onto the grassy portion as the truck passed the bus striking the woman in the back of the head. Emergency services responded and the woman was transported to NHH where she was treated for her cuts to the back of her head and released. The 28 year old truck driver from Hamilton was charged with passing on right not in safety.

OPP/Cobourg Police assist Port Hope Police in a disturbance.

On the 27th of May 2018 shortly before 11:00pm Port Hope Police were called to an apartment unit in the Municipality’s east and for was reported as a weapons call with a possible hostage taking. OPP and Cobourg Police also responded with resources to assist. Police were advised earlier that a woman in an apartment was possibly being held against her will. Police cordoned of the area setting up containment. At approximately 12:00am Police made contact with the occupants who vacated the residence. An investigation was conducted which revealed the woman was not being held against her will as earlier reported. No weapons were located
