Cobourg Begins Sidewalk Plowing Trial

In Local

The latest snowfall signals the start of the Town of Cobourg’s new trial sidewalk snowplowing program.

In accordance with council’s 2019-2021 Strategic Plan, the town’s Public Works Division is working to provide council with potential new sidewalk-plowing routes and costing options to expand the town’s current sidewalk-plowing program. To this end, staff will be intermittently plowing new areas within the town to document travel time and distances.

The Public Works Division would like residents to be aware that these routes will only be plowed when time permits, in accordance with the Winter Maintenance Level of Service policy that requires all regular road and sidewalk plowing responsibilities have been completed in compliance with the Minimum Maintenance Standards as regulated under the Municipal Act.

The sidewalk snowplowing trial routes will follow the same road plow routes initially for the collector blocks and arterial loops.

The town stresses that there have been no official changes to the sidewalk plowing routes, so residents are reminded to clear snow and ice from the sidewalks along their property frontages as required under Bylaw 81-2014.

For more information on the town’s snow removal and winter maintenance program, contact the Public Works Division at 905-372-9971.
