Once the COVID pandemic is over, Northumberland Hills Hospital Auxiliary representative Marg Hilborn said at the board of director’s February meeting, that group may look much different.
With a membership in the hundreds, this devoted body of volunteers were busy at the hospital every day in most aspects of patient care, from fetching fresh water to directing visitors at the front door.
Now, Hilborn reported, “our biggest concern right now is how many volunteers we may have who will not be coming back.
“They have told us very clearly they are not going to come back until there’s a vaccine.”
This is forcing the group to consider some form of reorganization, Hilborn added.
“We are sending volunteers to the different areas, once we know how many are able to come back.
“We have so many volunteers who are over 80, 75, 71. Everyone is concerned about what we are able to do when we do get back.”
“A very legitimate concern,” board chair Pam Went agreed.
