One Person Unaccounted For Following Brighton Township House Fire

In Local, Police Blotter

One person remains unaccounted for, following a structure fire in Brighton Township early Friday, January 29, 2021.

Brighton Township Fire Department was dispatched to reports of a structure fire on Old Wooler Road east of Orland shortly after 3:30 a.m.

Brighton Fire Chief Jim Smith said when members of the volunteer fire department arrived 13-minutes after being dispatched the home fully involved.

“Flames were coming through the roof and through the windows. It just started to collapse as firefighters were making a (defensive) attack.”

There were two propane tanks firefighters also had to contender with which were venting.

Mutual aid was requested from Trent Hills Fire Department while Cramahe Township Fire Department was on standby at the Brighton Firehalls.

Twenty-three firefighters worked to contain the fire which was declared under control at 5:11 a.m., but throughout Friday morning firefighters had to contend with hot spots.

“The fire is really stubborn to put out. “We’ll be nursing those hot spots for most of the day because a lot of the roof is down onto those hot spots.”

A vehicle was located in the driveway and one person is unaccounted for at this time.

The scene is being held by the OPP and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate the blaze.
