Durham Police – Alleged Impaired Driver Attempts to Flee from Police in Oshawa

Police arrested two suspects who fled from police in Oshawa on Thursday morning.

On Thursday, January 14, 2021, at approximately 1:30 a.m., members of Central East Division attempted to stop a possible impaired driver in the area of Frank Street and Simcoe Street South in Oshawa. The driver failed to stop for police and struck two police cruisers. The officers did not suffer any injuries.

Police continued to follow the vehicle and located it abandoned with damage, in the area of Lviv Boulevard and Front Street. One of the suspects was seen hopping a chain-link fence and running across Highway 401 in an attempt to flee from police. With the assistance of the K-9 Unit, the suspects were located hiding in a wooded area and behind a building. During the investigation, officers discovered several discarded items by the suspects which included over $11,000 in drugs.

Steven HOOK, age 56, of Buck Street in Cobourg, is charged with: Operation while Impaired by Alcohol and Drug; Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance; Flight From Police; Possession for Use in Trafficking of a Schedule I Substance and Fail to Remain. He was released on an Undertaking.

Aaron WALROND, age 32, of Brockwood Drive in Richmond Hill, is charged with: Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x3 (crack-cocaine, fentanyl and oxycontin); Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking and Fail to Comply with Recognizance x3. He was held for a bail hearing.
