Peterborough County OPP – Wrong Way Driver Facing Impaired Charges

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to multiple 911 calls regarding a vehicle travelling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 115 last night at approximately 11:45pm.

The complainants reported that the vehicle was first observed near Orono and was travelling on the highway towards Peterborough in the wrong direction at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle was located by officers but the driver refused to stop. Spike belts were deployed just south of the Lansdowne Street East/Highway 115 intersection and the vehicle was stopped. The driver was arrested and found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Allison GRIFFIN (age 23) of Clarington, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

·      Operation while impaired-alcohol

·      Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration-80 plus

·      Dangerous operation

·      Drive wrong way-divided highway

·      Driver-fail to properly wear seatbelt

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on February 16, 2021.

The Peterborough County OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
