The Town of Cobourg would like to advise residents that effective January 26, 2021 regular hours and fares for Conventional Transit will be reinstated.
Since March 2020, free transit has been offered to all riders due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the Regular Council meeting on January 11, 2021 Council passed a motion to resume regular operating hours for Conventional Transit as well as reinstating transit fares as of January 26, 2021.
Conventional Transit Hours (Route 1 and Route 2) will resume regular hours as follows:
- Monday to Friday: 6:15 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.
- Saturday: 8:15am to 6:45 p.m.
- Sunday: 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
WHEELS Transit Hours (remain the same):
- Monday to Friday – 6:15 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
- Saturday – 8:15am to 6:45 p.m.
- Sunday – 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.
Cash Fare Collection and Online Payment System
Fare collection will also be reinstated on January 26, 2021 and will be accepted as $2 cash. The Town of Cobourg recognizes that cash fares for regular transit riders will exceed the cost of a discounted monthly pass and would like to kindly remind riders that passes have been free for 11 months by the end of February 2021, equivalent to savings of $330 for seniors, $660 for adults and $550 for students.
All previously purchased transit tickets will be honoured, however future (new) sales of transit tickets will be eliminated. Riders who purchased transit passes in the month of February and March 2020 will be able to utilize their pass from the fare collection implementation date to the end of February 2021.
Additionally, the Town of Cobourg is currently working on the ability to provide riders the opportunity to purchase transit passes through contactless/online fare payment system to be implemented this spring.
COVID-19 Safety Protocol Reminder
Transit riders are reminded that non-medical masks or face coverings are mandatory on all buses and at transit shelters to reduce the risk of spread of COVID-19.
