A number of Cobourg councillors joined Chief Administrative Officer Tracey Vaughan, Downtown Business Improvement Area chair Erica Cotton, local MP Philip Lawrence and MPP David Piccini for a pleasant downtown errand on Dec. 11 – opening four new businesses.

Deputy Mayor Suzanne Seguin listed them at this week’s Cobourg council meeting – Colonial Fitness, Earth Excellence, Grooming Tails Spa and Heritage Barber Shop.

“Congratulations to all these new businesses, and we wish them success in this crazy time,” Seguin said.

She also applauded the DBIA elves who are visiting various stores to offer selfies with the customers and offer their thanks to the shoppers for supporting the downtown.

The contest for winter decorations downtown ends Dec. 22 and, with the beautiful shop windows, Seguin said it would be difficult to determine who gets cash prizes.

And Councillor Adam Bureau added a suggestion for Christmas Eve.

At 6 p.m. that day, he said, go out on your porch and rink a bell for two minutes. It’s something that will be done in Toronto and other communities.

“It’s a fun and safe activity to connect with your neighbours and lift your spirits,” Bureau said.
