Cobourg Council – Parks and Waterfront Activities Shift Gears

In City Hall

Winter does not bring idleness to parks and waterfront operations in Cobourg, Councillor Emily Chorley said at this week’s council meeting – it just means shifting gears.

On-line request forms for 2021 at the campground have been completed, and more than 350 reservations created.

Interviews have been conducted with the harbour-users group, and a safety manual has been drafted.

“Our dredging team is working really hard in challenging weather conditions to assist Cameco with a significant dredging procedure in Port Hope,” she added.

As for Cobourg, significant repairs are needed to the harbour walls and breakwaters. An RFP is being drafted.

Chorley offered congratulations to the town’s former arbourist Rory Quigley, who is now parks manager.

“In our parks, fall and winter maintenance is on-going, including snow removal, inspections, garbage collection and rink maintenance.”

Speaking of the rink, the one in the Rotary Waterfront Park has officially opened. The bus shelter remains closed, but additional benches have been provided for skate doffing and donning.

“As always, please respect the rules posted, and employ physical distancing so we can all enjoy this outdoor facility in a safe manner.”
