Single Vehicle Collision on Highway 401 at Port Hope Sends Two to Hospital

Two women were taken to hospital after going for a wild ride after their vehicle went off of Highway 401 on Saturday, December 12, 2020.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. a vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 401 just east of the Cranberry Road overpass in Port Hope when off the highway, up a steep embankment, striking numerous trees before coming to a stop approximately 12 metres from the roadway behind a guardrail. A sound barrier wall was nearby, but the vehicle did not hit it.

Two women were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A third person was not injured in the collision.

The driver is charged with unsafe lane change under the Highway Traffic Act.
