A group of individuals that opened a bank account to help support a family left devastated by a crash last week is overwhelmed with the support.
The group who have children that attend St. Anthony Elementary School who both children involved in the accident attended donations have come from across the world.
Spokesperson Katherine Wotton said the account was set up the day after the December 2 crash that killed 12-year-old Cormac Kerin and left his 10-year-old sister fighting for her at Sick Children’s Hospital in Toronto.
The group had no specific goal in mind but Wotton said she cried when it reached $5,000 from the outpouring of support from the community.
Checking in with Wotton on Sunday, December 6, 2020 the bank account had reached over $43,000.
“The support from the community during this tragic time has left everyone who started the bank account in tears,” said Wotton.
“We have even have donations that have come from Europe and the United States.”
“This tragedy is one that could have happened in any rural community across Canada.”
“The money is accessible to the parents of the children and gives them one less thing to worry about while they have so much on their minds at this time.”
The group is still collecting gift cards for gas, food etc to help cover some of the expenses of family members traveling to Toronto.
