Peterborough County OPP – Theft from Vehicles Continue

In Police Blotter

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind motorists to lock their vehicles when they park them.

Several residents in Peterborough County have become victims of theft after their parked vehicles were entered and items were stolen.

Officers have responded to numerous theft/fraud calls in Selwyn, Otonabee-South Monaghan and Douro-Dummer Townships which involve the suspect taking wallets from unlocked vehicles.
The most recent thefts have occurred in the Donwood area of Douro-Dummer Township and Old Norwood Road in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township.

A suspect has been captured on video surveillance (See attached photo). The suspect travels on a bicycle and has been using the stolen money/credit cards at Mac’s and Circle K stores.

Vehicle owners and drivers are urged to secure their vehicle prior to leaving it and also remove or put out of sight any valuables that may be in the vehicle.

The loss of wallet/purse personal contents along with vehicle documents can also leave the victim vulnerable to secondary crimes such as fraud and identity theft.
