Peterborough County OPP – Boat Accident on Chemong Lake Claims One Life While Another Person Still Missing

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to assist at a boat accident on Chemong Lake off the shores of Curve Lake First Nation this morning at approximately 6:40 am.

A boat with four occupants on board capsized while fishing on Chemong Lake near Chemong Street South. Three occupants were rescued by officers with the assistance of community members. A male and two females were transported to a local hospital. The male was pronounced deceased at hospital, one female has sustained life-threatening injuries and another female is being treated for minor injuries. One male is unaccounted for. The OPP Marine Unit, OPP Aviation Services and Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) are currently searching the area for the missing male.

The identity of the deceased will not be released until the next of kin are notified.

The cause of this accident remains under investigation.
