Update – Cobourg Police – Male Charged With Impaired Driving Following Collision

A male has been charged with impaired driving after police responded to a single motor vehicle collision.

At approximately 5:00 am on the 4th of July 2020 the Cobourg Police responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Prince of Wales Dr. The motor vehicle was travelling South on Prince of Wales Dr when the driver lost control of the motor vehicle striking a parked vehicle subsequently coming to a stop on a residential lawn. Major damage was caused to both vehicles requiring them to be towed.

Police arrived on the scene to find the motor vehicle abandoned in an attempt for the driver to avoid arrest. The male driver was found and arrested by police close to the incident.

As the driver sustained injuries caused by the accident, he was taking to Northumberland Hills Hospital while still in police custody. The driver provided a breath samples at the hospital which resulted in a in a blood alcohol concentration more the double the legal limit.

As a result of the police investigation, 19-year-old Brendan DAVIS of Cobourg was charged with:

1. Impaired Operation Contrary to Section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

2. Impaired Operation – Over 80 Contrary to Section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code

3. Novice Driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration Above Zero Contrary to Section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act

4. Possess More Than One License Contrary to Section 35(1)(e) of the Highway Traffic Act

DAVIS was released on an Undertaking with an impending court date and a 90 day driver’s license suspension.

Cobourg Police encourage the public to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911. Impaired driving is the #1 criminal cause of death in Canada and, yet, every impaired driving crash is preventable. By calling 911 and reporting suspected impaired drivers to police, everyone can play a role in keeping our roads and waterways safe and in reducing impaired driving crashes, deaths and injuries.
