Pride Month Kicks Off In Cobourg and Northumberland County

In Community, Local

June is Pride Month and the town of Cobourg and Cobourg Police kicked off the month with two ceremonies on Monday, June 1, 2020.

The first ceremony was held on Second Street at Northumberland County’s first Rainbow Crosswalk which was launched last year.

Cobourg Mayor John Henderson, Councillor Adam Bureau (Arts/Culture and Tourism) and Co-founder of the Cobourg Queer Collective Kim McArthur-Jackson spoke during the event.

Next it was off to the Cobourg Police Station where members of the service raised the Pride flag for the month of June.

The Pride flag was also raised at the Northumberland County building located on Courthouse Road in Cobourg.

June is recognized as Pride Month in Canada and around the world. It is an opportunity to celebrate sexual diversity, promote equal rights, and build awareness of the challenges faced by the LGBTQ2S+ community. Northumberland County celebrates the diversity of our gender and sexual minority communities including Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Two-Spirit and more (LGBTQ2S+), and expresses a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in our organization and our community.

The Pride Flag will fly on the County’s community flagpole from June 1 to 7, 2020
