Northumberland OPP – Break and Enter Investigation Witnesses Sought

In Police Blotter

(BRIGHTON, ON) –On April 29, 2018 a resident on Sandpiper Way in Brighton reported a break-in sometime between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Entry was gained through an apparently unlocked rear sliding door. The suspect stole a quantity of jewellery from a bedroom and appeared not to disturb or enter any other area of the house.

As a result of the subsequent investigation, police were advised of a suspicious vehicle in the area at the time of the break-in. At approximately 10:30 a.m. a male was observed to be sitting in an older grey Buick sedan (possibly a Regal) near Sandpiper Way and Nesbitt Drive. A resident reported that the male exited the car and urinated on the front lawn. When that resident confronted the male he drove off.

Investigators also learned that a female was observed to exit that car and walk between two nearby homes. Police believe that the pair was working together and that the male was waiting nearby for the female to commit the crime.

The male is described as 50-60 years old, 5 6” (168cm), 160 lbs (73kg) with an olive/tanned skin tone, dark hair wearing white cotton pants and a dark shirt. No description of the female is available.

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is asking for the public’s assistance with this ongoing investigation and would ask that anyone with information on this crime call the Brighton OPP detachment at 613-475-1313 or toll free 1-888-310-1122.

Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call the Peterborough/Northumberland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) where you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000 and not have to appear in court.
