Editorial – Emergency Services – Always There When You Need Them

In Editorial

At all times we should be thankful for emergency services.

Tonight was no different.

A horrific call of a person struck by a train in Port Hope on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 around 9 p.m.

We all pray the person survives.  Details are still being investigated.

No one should speculate on the cause until the investigation is complete.

But being there and seeing the care the person received is something the community should also be aware of.

There were two paramedic units along with a supervisor, at least three police cruisers, and at least two fire apparatus.

When the person was placed into the ambulance, paramedics worked on the person for several minutes before leaving for Northumberland Hills Hospital with sirens and emergency lights activated.

At Northumberland Hills Hospital it didn’t take long to hear the sound of the air ambulance.  Moments later when it landed paramedic grabbed their gear and rushed into the emergency department.

In these days where it seems to be the focus is on COVID-19, it’s still comforting to know that emergency services are there to help.

It’s natural for people to criticize all types of government, federal, provincial or municipal and how money is spent.

But seeing emergency services operate from a municipal (fire, police), county (paramedics) and provincial (air ambulance) level you know everything that could be done was done.

Hope you never have to use  the resources, but also know the professionals are there at a moments notice.
