Roseglen Village for Seniors celebrated Mother’s Day on Friday, May 8, 2020 in a different way.

Due to COVID-19, the annual Mother’s Day luncheon was cancelled, but a parade through the parking lot brought many smiles along with a few tears.

Leading the parade of vehicles through the parking lot were members of the Port Hope Police and Port Hope Fire Department.

Numerous residents held signs and there were many messages from loved ones in vehicles as they drove through.

Due to COVID-19 families were not able to greet each other personally, but loved ones in the parade dropped off gifts including signs and flowers.

During the parade one staff member was visibly upset with tears stating to Today’s Northumberland, “it’s been so hard for everyone.”

There were tears of sadness and joy to see the smiles on the faces of both the residents and people in the parade.

At the end of the parade, Port Hope firefighter who was driving the department’s newest vehicle said, “and a big happy Mother’s Day to my mother Dorothy Lent. I love you Mom. Happy Mother’s Day folks!”
