Breaking News – Moments Before Collision In Port Hope Driver Was Involved In Road Rage Incident

In Local

Today’s Northumberland has learned a suspect facing charges after a collision in Port Hope on Saturday, May 2, 2020 was involved in a confrontation with another person minutes before the collision.

A witness to the road rage incident spoke to Today’s Northumberland and said the confrontation happened just across from the Port Hope Convenience at Ontario Street and Oxford Street.

The witness who asked not to be identified had just stopped at the convenience store when a woman came up to him asking for his help.

“She said can you help my friend across the street that guy wants to fight him.”

When the person looked across the road he saw the person get out of the vehicle (that was later involved in the collision) and ran up to another person who had just pulled into a driveway on the west side.

The witness said the person who had just exited the car challenged the man to a fight, but the other person refused.

The person who didn’t want to fight, stated the man had been driving so close behind him that the vehicle hit his back bumper.

The witness stated the person who’d just got out of the vehicle started swinging and connected with the other person twice.

“But the big guy had his arm out just holding him back.”

The witness said before he could get across the street, the person who declined to fight, “hit him so hard he knocked him right out of his shoes.”

“He knocked him from the boulevard into the bush and his shoes were still sitting on the boulevard.”

The punch was so hard it knocked at least one of his teeth out.

“By the time I got there the big guy grabbed hold of him and threw him against his car and said “I told you I didn’t want to fight.”

Blood was dripping from his mouth where he had lost at least one tooth from the punch.

“He gets in his car and just floors it southbound on Ontario (Street).”

“He just smoked the tires – he didn’t have any shoes on at that time.”

Just a few minutes later, the witness saw emergency services heading southbound with their emergency lights and sirens activated to attend the collision.
