Elusive Bear Still On the Loose In Port Hope

In Editor Choice, Local

Port Hope’s unofficial mascot seems to be evading authorities as it roams throughout the town in darkness.

Today’s Northumberland first reported the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry have now set up a bear trap in hopes of safely securing the bear and taking it to a location where it will be released.

The bear has been in Port Hope for several days, coming out mostly at night and in the early hours.

On April 30, 2020 a security camera in the Jocelyn Street and Payne Crescent area caught the bear casually strolling down the driveway at 4:49 a.m.

It’s believed the bear also got into garbage along Payne Crescent and may have dislodged a fence.

The municipality has advised for residents to remove bird feeders and other items that would attract the bear until it has been caught and safely taken away.
