Investigators with the Ontario Fire Marshals office, Northumberland OPP Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Investigator and Cramahe Township Fire Department are continuing their investigation into a early morning fire at 17 Percy Street.

Shortly after midnight on February 9, 2020, Cramahe Fire Department were dispatched to Percy Street for a structure fire.

A person called stating the house beside where they lived was on fire.

“When we showed up we had fire extending out the right hand side of the house and the house was full of smoke,” said Fire Chief Tim Burgess.

There was no one home at the time of the fire.

“At this time, we are lead to believe there are some questions that need to be answered, so we’ve brought in the investigators to determine the answers.”

There were no animals inside the residence.

Burgess said the resident did take the animals out when they noticed the fire.

A soot covered propane tank sat on the front porch of the home after it was removed by firefighters.

Police are asking if anyone has video from around the neighbourhood  between approximately 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. to contact them at Northumberland OPP.

Damage is estimated at approximately $175,000.
