Northumberland OPP – Three People Charged with Impaired Driving

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made three arrests for impaired driving.

Just before 4:00 am on Thursday January 16, 2020, an officer stopped a brown Hyundai SUV that was heading southbound on Division Street in Cobourg and was observed to be unable to maintain travelling in a marked lane. Police investigation led to the arrest of the vehicle driver.

Jennifer ROBITAILLE (age 37) of Hamilton Township, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Adult Novice driver – B.A.C above zero

On Friday January 17, 2020, just before 6:00 pm a Brown Hyundai SUV approached a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoint on County Road 45 in Alnwick-Haldimand Township. After a conversation with the driver, the officer suspected the driver had been consuming alcohol. The officer administered a roadside screening device test and the driver registered a fail.

As a result of the investigation Tanya NORTHEY (age 43) of Trent Hills, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

· Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Driving while under suspension
· Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

Shortly after midnight on January 22, 2020, an officer conducting radar speed enforcement on Highway 401 near Brighton stopped a blue Nissan SUV after it was measured travelling 151 km/hr in a 100 km/hr zone. After an investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. As a result, Hailey Anne BROWN (age 26) of Brighton, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

· Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Race a motor vehicle – Stunt

All three accused received an immediate 90 day licence suspension and the vehicles they were driving were towed and impounded. They were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on scheduled dates in February and March, 2020.
