The fifth annual Castleton Santa Claus Pet Parade wound its way through the village on Sunday, December 8, 2019.

Delia Leggett said she stated the event five years ago as she was walking through the village and realized there were no Christmas lights on the tree at the town hall and there was no parade.

Since Santa visits a lot of towns for parades Leggett thought of putting a different twist on it by having a pet parade.

The first year there were approximately eight pets. The following year a piper lead the parade and the number of pets in the parade increased.

This year there were over 60 dogs, 10 horses and at least one donkey.

“People who bring their pets here love their pets and it’s a fun way to celebrate Christmas with a different twist.”

“I don’t know of any other town that has a pet parade,” Leggett says with a smile.

Some of the pets and their owners even dressed for the season.

The parade started by Northumberland Hills Public School on County Road 25 winding its way through the streets of the village to end up at the library.
