Video Shows Drama Canadian Coast Guard Face Throughout The Season

The Captain of the Coast Guard cutter Cape Rescue has recently completed a video project he has worked on for several years.

Captain Liam Pigott has a love for videography and has put together an amazing video showcasing the last three seasons of life at the Coast Guard station in Cobourg.

“It’s a mix of training and actual search and rescue calls,” said Pigott speaking with Today’s Northumberland.

The video primarily shows the 2019 season of the Coast Guard crew based in Cobourg and a number of search and rescue incidents including an incident alongside a large ship traveling Lake Ontario where a member of the Cape Rescue was treating a person who had suffered a medical emergency.

The rescues include a large cabin cruiser that was taking on water on Lake Ontario and people on board launched a life raft. Unfortunately the swim platform at the stern of the boat punctured the life raft. Thankfully the crew from the Cape Rescue arrived on scene. The igress of water was controlled and the vessel in distress was safely towed back to Cobourg Harbour.

There are also a number of scenes showing training with Search and Rescue Technicians from 424 Squadron at CFB Trenton.

“When we get search and rescue calls, there’s often a lot on the line so we like to be well prepared to help people.”

“We spend a lot of time training in person in the water recovery, search patterns and towing, and endeavour to cover everything we might see on the water.”

Pigott’s position in the Coast Guard and his passion for videography gave him a unique opportunity to capture life on the water from a search and rescue angle most people wouldn’t witness.

“I hope my film inspires anyone to consider a rewarding career with the Canadian Coast Guard.”
