Cameco Holds Emergency Preparedness Exercise

In Local

Press Release from Cameco

On the evening of October 8, 2019, Cameco conducted a planned emergency preparedness exercise at its Fuel Manufacturing facility located at 200 Dorset, Port Hope.

The exercise was a coordinated effort with Port Hope Fire Services, Port Hope Police Services and Port Hope Paramedic Services.

The planned scenario included a simulated fire on the property and simulated injured employees. This scenario allowed us to exercise multiple aspects of our comprehensive emergency preparedness plan and to test our coordination with local emergency services.

Cameco’s Port Hope facilities maintain up-to-date comprehensive Emergency Preparedness Plans (ERPs). These plans outline how we prepare for, respond to, and recover from unexpected events. We test our capabilities and the effectiveness of our ERPs through a series of annual drills. Every three years we conduct full-scale exercises which we coordinate with local emergency services.

These exercises are evaluated and allow us to verify the effectiveness of our emergency response, preparedness and recovery.
