Breaking News – Transport Collision Shuts Down Highway 401 Eastbound Lanes East of Brighton

Two transport drivers were taken to hospital after a chain reaction collision on Highway 401 east of Brighton on Friday, September 6, 2019.

At approximately 12:35 a.m. eastbound traffic was slowed due to construction along the highway stated Northumberland OPP.

A transport rear-ended another transport ahead of it that had slowed or stopped due to construction just east of the County Road 26 overpass east of Brighton The second transport collided with a transport ahead of it which had also slowed or stopped due to the construction.

The driver of the first transport was trapped in his cab, but was out when emergency responders including Brighton Fire Department, Northumberland County Paramedics and Northumberland OPP arrived on scene.

The first driver was taken to hospital with what are believed to be serious injuries. The second transport driver was also taken to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.

None of the three transports were carrying hazardous cargo.

OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators were called to examine the collision. It’s expected the eastbound lanes of Highway 401, east of Brighton will remain closed until at least 7 a.m.
