Northumberland OPP – Male Charged After Stolen Vehicle Recovered

Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of an abandoned vehicle that was parked on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 east of the Big Apple exit in Cramahe Township shortly after 11:00 am on July 27, 2019.

Investigation showed that the white 2015 Mitsubishi four door sedan was reported stolen from the Toronto area during the overnight hours of July 26 – 27, 2019.

Just before 3:00 pm officers responded to reports of suspicious male walking around with a purse in the Big Apple restaurant parking lot located on Orchard Road. Investigation revealed that the purse the male was carrying belonged to the registered owner of the stolen Mitsubishi that was recovered on Highway 401 earlier in the day.

Matthew Edward KRAUS (age 36) of Toronto, Ontario was arrested and charged with:

· Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
· Theft Over $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle
· Fail to Comply with Probation Order ( 5 counts)

The accused was held in custody for Show Cause Hearing on Sunday July 28, 2019.
