Northumberland OPP – Three Charged With Impaired Driving Over The Weekend

Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged two motor vehicle operators and one ATV rider with impaired driving this past weekend.

On Friday June 14, 2019 just before 8:30 pm an ATV was stopped on 12th Line East in the Municipality of Trent Hills after officers observed the rider holding what appeared to be a can of beer. While speaking with the male rider officers detected an odour of a n alcoholic beverage. A roadside Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered to the rider resulting in a “fail”. The male was arrested and transported back to the detachment for further testing. Gregory, Micheal MCCONNELL (age 59) of Trent Hills, Ontario has been charged with Operation while prohibited and Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on July 10, 2019.

Andrew Allison (age 24) of Scarborough, Ontario was arrested on Sunday June 16, 2019 just before 5:30 am after police received information of a male that was driving a silver sedan left the Port Hope Highway 401 service station parking lot, drove across the grassy area into a ditch and got stuck. He was charged with Operation while Impaired – Blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.
He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario C ourt of Justice in Cobourg on July 24, 2019.

Just after 7:30 pm on Sunday June 16, 2019 officers stopped a grey, four door Chevrolet sedan on County Road 45 near Concession Road 9 West in the Municipality of Trent Hills to investigate an offence under the Cannabis Control Act. As a result of the investigation Timothy MOTUZAS (age 35) of Asphodel-Norwood Township, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Operation while Impaired – Blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Operation while prohibited
Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available
Novice driver Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) above zero
Drive motor vehicle – no licence
He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on July 10, 2019.

All three accused received an immediate driver’s licence suspension and the vehicles they were operating were towed and impounded.
The OPP would like to remind motorists that highway safety is a shared responsibility. If you choose to consume alcohol or drugs, plan ahead to ensure that yourself and others travelling our roadways arrive home safely.
