Brush Fire – Alnwick/Haldimand Township

In Local, News

There were a few tense moments in Alnwick/Haldimand Township after a brush fire raced up a hill towards a house on Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 3 p.m. firefighters were dispatched to the location on Northumberland Heights Road east of Cobourg.
The owner of the home told Today’s Northumberland that he was cutting wood at the bottom of the hill and as he took one load up the hill, he noticed the grass fire at the bottom of the hill and called 9-1-1.
At one point the owner was ready to evacuate and put his small child in his car, but the fire department knocked down the flames.
The owner suspects a spark from a chainsaw may have started the fire.
Two townships in Northumberland County have burn bans including Cramahe Township and Brighton Township due to the dry weather.
