Community Care Northumberland (CCN) is pleased to announce its participation in the North American 2018 March for Meals Initiative in Cramahe Township and throughout Northumberland County.
As part of our month long initiative, Jim Williams representing the Rotary Club will join with volunteers in Colborne on March 20th, delivering hot meals to local Meals on Wheels (MOW) clients.

“We are hoping this initiative with bring attention to our need for Meals on Wheels volunteers,” said Trish Baird – Executive Director of CCN. “The Meals on Wheels program is growing and without volunteers we will be forced to cap service because we simply can not keep up with the demand.”
In Colborne, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00am, volunteers pick up the hot meals that are packed into insulated Meals on Wheels bags at the old Colborne United Church kitchen (1 Church Street East, Colborne, Ontario) and deliver them to clients on a pre-planned route during the noon hour. The pre-planned route of stops takes no longer than 1 hour. When the route is completed, the volunteers return the bags to the Community Care office.
Meals are prepared by Black Dress Catering, owned by Donna Rusaw.
Last year, with the help of local volunteers, 2,300 hot and frozen meals were delivered throughout Cramahe Township. This is part of the over 26,000 total meals delivered throughout Northumberland County.
“Though the food is welcome, sometimes the human contact matters even more,” said Baird. “For some of our clients, socialization isn’t just a perk of the program; it’s a life-saver.”
