The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 165 incidents this past week, here are some examples:
January 15
An officer stopped a green pickup truck travelling westbound on Highway 401 in Alnwick-Haldimand Township at approximately 4:45 pm for a Highway Traffic Act offence. The driver identified himself to the officer using false information. As a result of the investigation 55-year-old Mark GURCZENSKI of St. Catherines, Ontario was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with:
Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice
. Operation while prohibited
The accused was additionally charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:
. Driving while suspended
. Insecure load
He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on February 6, 2019. The vehicle he was driving was towed and impounded for 45 days.
An officer conducted a traffic stop on a brown Dodge sedan after it was measured travelling 154km/h on Highway 401 eastbound in the Municipality of Brighton just before 2:30 pm. As a result of the investigation a 50-year-old male from Kingston, Ontario was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with race a motor vehicle. The male received an immediate seven day licence suspension and the vehicle he was driving was towed and impounded for seven days. He is scheduled to appear in Court on March 6, 2019.
Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in Cramahe Township just after 4:30 am for noise complaint. A tenant was woken up by the sound of loud music being played by another tenant in the building. Both parties were spoken to and the music was turned down.
January 16
A female from the Municipality of Trent Hills contacted police to report an assault by a family member that allegedly occurred on January 15, 2019. As a result of the investigation a 38-year-old male from Trent Hills, Ontario was arrested and charged with the following offences.
Assault
. Overcome Resistance by attempting to Choke, Suffocate or Strangle another person
. Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
The accused, whose name is not being released, was held in custody for a bail court hearing in Cobourg on January 17, 2019.
As a result of a domestic dispute investigation that occurred in the Municipality of Brighton, police arrested and charged a 24-year-old male from Brighton, Ontario with:
Assault
. Fail to Comply with Conditions of an Undertaking given by an Officer In Charge
The accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing in Cobourg on January 17, 2019.
A seasonal property located on Cedar Shores Road in the Municipality of Trent Hills, was reported to have been entered sometime between October, 2018 and January 16, 2019. An unlocked shed was entered and a black 15 horse powered Mercury outboard motor with serial number 06717642 was stolen. Investigation continuing.*
January 17
Several tools were reported stolen sometime overnight from a trailer that was parked on a job site on County Road 50 between Bay Meadows Road and 10th Line West in the Municipality of Trent Hills. The lock securing the trailer door was found to be compromised by the morning supervisor who then notified police. Investigation continuing.*
A male reported to police that on Sunday January 13, 2019, while at the service centre on Highway 401 eastbound in Port Hope, he was defrauded of $1000 when he purchased several pieces of jewellery that he believed to be real gold from two males claiming to be from Dubai. The jewellery was later found to fake. Police continue to investigate.*
Officers also investigated 14 accidental 911 calls/alarms, 24 motor vehicle collisions; 21 traffic related complaints and conducted 22 RIDE programs during this time period.
