Northumberland OPP – Alleged Impaired Driver Taken Off Highway

On Monday December 24, 2018 just after 4:30 am officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a report of possible impaired driver travelling eastbound on Highway 401east of Port Hope. The vehicle was described as swerving and unable to drive in a marked lane.

Officers located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Highway 401just east of Cobourg in Hamilton Township. As a result of the investigation 36-year-old Ahmed Ali Noureldin Mahmoud Abou Elenein from Quinte West, Ontario was arrested and charged with the following offences:

· Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs
· Dangerous Operation
· Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine
· Resist Peace Officer
· Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

The accused male was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on January 16, 2019.
