Alnwick/Haldimand Woman Has Had Enough of Roadside Dumping

An Alnwick/Haldimand woman has had enough of people littering.
“I want people to keep our earth beautiful,” said Kelly Johnson.
For her life of 29-years, Johnson has grown up on Isaac Road off County Road 9 in Alnwick/Haldimand Township.
People have been littering on the small roadway at least once a week for years.
“It’s always been a problem.”
After driving by garbage everyday, curiosity got the better and Johnson decided to see if there was anything that would identify the person.
“I pulled over and took a look and sure enough there was a pill bottle (with the name of a person).”
After posting her story on social media, she said a lot of people were outraged and disgusted.
Johnson said it appears the person just pulled over to the side of the road to clean their vehicle and dumped the contents along the side of the road.
“It’s ridiculous that people think that they can just throw their garbage on the side of the road – especially in a country area.”
A quick drive along the short road reveals a number of places were garbage including a vacuum cleaner, beer cans, cement, part of flooring and many other items have been dumped.
Johnson thinks when one person sees garbage along a roadway it soon turns into a free-for-all.
“If one person does it, it won’t make a difference if another one does is the mentality.”
For people who want to clean their car, Johnson said just go to a gas station and clean your car out.
“And for people who complain about a three dollar garbage tag, for three dollars for the environment, I don’t think is a horrible thing.”
Johnson did call Northumberland County, but they were closed for the holidays, but plans on calling them again.
