Lower Trent Conservation – Flood Outlook Statement From Grafton To Quinte West

In Editor Choice, Local

Lower Trent Conservation advises municipalities and the public that a Flood Outlook Statement has been issued for the Lower Trent watershed region (area stretching from Grafton to Quinte West and from Lake Ontario to Rice Lake).
· Stream flows and levels across the Lower Trent Conservation watershed region are average for this time of year. Above freezing temperatures are forecast for the next 2 days with up to 40 millimetres of rain predicted for late Thursday into Friday. Temperatures are expected to drop below zero Friday night and stay below zero well into next week.
Runoff from rain on bare frozen ground may result in the potential for nuisance flooding to occur. Lower Trent Conservation will continue to monitor conditions but if residents observe sudden increases in water levels they should call the Lower Trent Conservation office.
Under these mild conditions, all local rivers, streams, and lakes should be considered dangerous. Parents are urged to keep children away from all waterways. Areas around water control structures should be avoided at all times.
Lower Trent Conservation monitors water levels and weather forecasts closely as part of its flood forecasting and warning program. If you have concerns about water levels, please contact Lower Trent Conservation at (613) 394-4829.
