Peterborough County OPP – Fatal Collision on Selwyn Road

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to assist at a collision at approximately 4:00pm on Selwyn Road between the 11th and 12th lines of Selwyn.
A sport utility vehicle was travelling southbound when it crossed the center line and collided with a northbound sedan. A passenger in the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the sport utility vehicle and the driver of the sedan were transported to hospital for treatment of various injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation and the identity of the victim will not be released until next of kin are notified.
Selwyn Road remains closed between the 11th and 12th Lines of Selwyn while members trained in Collision Reconstruction measure and document the scene. The Selwyn Road closure will remain in place for seve ral hours while police investigate. A sport utility vehicle was travelling southbound when it crossed the center line to avoid a northbound sedan that had entered the southbound lane. The sedan corrected itself and re-entered the northbound lane resulting in a collision with the sport utility vehicle.
The male driver of the sedan has been transported to a Toronto trauma center for treatment.
The female driver and male passenger of the sport utility vehicle were treated at an area hospital.
The deceased female passenger in the sedan has been identified as Leona Matthews (age 66) of Selwyn Township, Ontario.
Investigation is ongoing.
