Residents across Cobourg and Port Hope were greeted by some familiar faces on Saturday as members of 598 Sabre Squadron Air Cadets took to the streets for their annual Tagging Day.
Among those out helping raise funds was cadet Morley Simonsen, one of several squadron members stationed throughout the community, greeting residents and accepting donations.
The annual fundraiser is an important part of keeping the local cadet program active and providing opportunities for young people across Northumberland.
Money raised helps support leadership development, citizenship and aviation opportunities, while also helping cover the costs of training activities, trips, the squadron’s pipes and drums band and special events throughout the year.
For the cadets, Tagging Day is about more than collecting donations. It is another opportunity to put the values they learn through the program into practice — serving their community while building confidence, leadership skills and friendships.
The generosity of local residents helps ensure cadets can continue to participate in activities and experiences that might otherwise be beyond the reach of the program.
On Saturday, those blue uniforms were a familiar sight around Cobourg and Port Hope — and every donation, large or small, helps keep the opportunities flying.
