In Local, Police Blotter

The Port Hope Police Service Board is pleased to announce the extension of Tim Farquharson’s contract as Chief of Police, extending his leadership through March 2030.

As part of its continued commitment to strong, community-focused policing, the Board formally approved the extension in recognition of Chief Farquharson’s leadership and the positive impact he has had on both the Service and the broader community.

George Kallonakis, Chair of the Board, stated:
“Chief Farquharson’s leadership continues to have a profoundly positive impact on both the Service and the broader Port Hope community. His strong relationships with community partners, local organizations, and policing colleagues have helped foster trust, collaboration, and shared success. The Board recognizes and values his ongoing commitment to community engagement and progressive policing. We look forward to continuing this important work together in the years ahead.”

Chief Farquharson expressed his appreciation for the Board’s confidence and his continued commitment to the community:
“I am honoured that the Port Hope Police Services Board has extended my contract as Chief of Police until March of 2030. I am genuinely excited for the opportunity to continue serving this remarkable community and to keep working alongside the dedicated members of the Port Hope Police Service.
I come to work each day with genuine pride—pride in the dedicated people I work alongside, in their professionalism and compassion, and in the strong bond our service shares with the community. Port Hope is a truly special place to live, work, and visit, and I am grateful to continue supporting the Port Hope Police Service as we move forward together.

Our commitment moving forward together remains clear: we will continue striving to be the most effective, responsive, and community-focused police service across Ontario and Canada. Community safety and well-being are at the heart of everything we do, and that work is strengthened by the exceptional partnerships across Northumberland County.

Our region stands apart through its collaborative approach to policing. The partnership between the OPP, the Cobourg Police Service, and the Port Hope Police Service demonstrates a collective dedication to supporting our residents in thoughtful and innovative ways. By working together, we are fostering safer, healthier communities built on trust, cooperation, and a deep understanding of those we serve.

I am looking ahead with optimism. The challenges we face are real, but I know I am not facing them alone. I am surrounded by an incredible group of individuals who show up every day with professionalism, integrity, and heart. Their commitment inspires me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue leading our outstanding police service and community into our future together.”

The Board looks forward to continuing its work with Chief Farquharson and the members of the Port Hope Police Service to support community safety and well-being across the municipality.
