The Cobourg Collegiate Institute Wolves won their final round-robin pool play game Wednesday morning at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) boys ‘AAA’ hockey championship in Lasalle-Windsor, but it wasn’t enough to advance to the quarterfinals.
The No. 14 seed Wolves concluded their schedule with a convincing 7-3 victory over the No. 12 Lo-Ellen Park Knights from Sudbury to improve to 2-1-0.
Oliver Coyle paced the CCI offence with two goals and three assists while Ethan McGregor also scored twice and had an assist. Spencer Harold, Lawson Minifie and Simon Fisher added single tallies for the Wolves and Brayden Minifie registered three assists.
In Pool D, CCI had the same 2-1 record as the top seed Brooklin High School Bears and No. 7 Neil McNeil Maroons. Only the top two teams from each pool advanced to the quarterfinals and despite holding a head-to-head victory over Neil McNeil, the Wolves were eliminated based on goal differential factoring in all three games.
Brooklin and Neil McNeil advanced, though both were defeated in the quarterfinals.
Team members of the CCI Wolves, as listed on the OFSAA website, are Sam Clarke, Jack Beebe, Ethan McGregor, Ben Duncan, Cam Stevens, Ryan Blake, Spencer Harold, Lawson Minifie, Seth Sparks, Cohen Stewart, Oliver McCullough, Henry Fisher, Simon Fisher, Ewan Dahle, Troy Patton, Oliver Coyle, Brayden Davidson, Trent Clow and goaltenders Cooper McCarthy and Ethan Fuller.
