In Hockey

Some familiar names suited up in senior A hockey this season for the Durham Hawks of the Northern Premier Hockey League.

Durham placed third in the Capital’s Highlands Division regular season standings behind the Deseronto Bulldogs and Lindsay Barncats.

In the opening round of playoffs, the Hawks swept Lindsay two straight in a best-of-three matchup, but fell to Deseronto 3-1 in a second-round best-of-five series.

Deseronto clinched the series victory with a convincing 9-1 win Sunday night at the South Courtice Arena.

Durham’s lone victory over the Bulldogs was Feb. 22 at the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex.

Carter Clarke and Dawson Baker were among the goal scorers in that contest while Josh Sainthill had a strong season for the Hawks.

One of the teammates for the locals was former NHL player and two-time Stanley Cup champion Bryan Bickell.
