Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made an arrest after recovering a stolen vehicle and locating the driver after they had fled.

On Monday February 9, 2026, shortly before noon, Peterborough County OPP officers received a call related to a suspicious vehicle that had turned into a residence’s driveway and had remained there. The caller approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver who provided an explanation that the caller didn’t believe. The caller provided police with a description of the vehicle and the driver.

An officer was dispatched and while on their way to the location, observed a vehicle matching the description, stopped at the side of the road with the driver behind the wheel. The officer made a turn to go speak with the driver who upon seeing the police cruiser, sped away from the area.

Officers were able to identify the driver, and it was also determined that the vehicle had been stolen. On Monday February 16, 2026, OPP officers were advised that the suspect had been taken into custody by Peterborough Police Service (PPS) on a different matter. Officers attended the PPS detachment and the individual was arrested.
