Cobourg Implements Licensing for Short-Term Rental Accommodations

In City Hall, Local

Operators encouraged to apply through Town’s licensing portal Short-Term Rental Accommodation (STRA) companies and operators in Cobourg are now required to obtain a licence through the Town’s Municipal Law Enforcement and Licensing Department.

The Short-Term Rental Accommodation Licensing By-law came into effect on April 1, 2025, followed by the approval of the updated Zoning By-law on December 17, 2025. With these regulations now in effect, the Town is actively accepting and processing STRA licence applications.

About STRAs
Short-Term Rental Accommodations (STRAs) are different from traditional accommodations as they usually occur in buildings used for residential purposes. STRAs offer a variety of benefits to travellers and homeowners. The intention of a licensing program is to create equal standards for all Short-Term Rental Accommodations to educate and guide owners and renters, and to provide Municipal Law Enforcement staff with the necessary tools to ensure compliance of all regulatory legislation.

The Town’s STRA webpage provides a variety of information and resources to assist applicants and will include a list of licensed operators and companies.

How to Apply for Your STRA Licence
Licensing of short-term rentals is processed through the Town’s “Cloudpermit” Licensing Software. To begin the application process go to Cobourg.ca/STRA and follow the link. You will need to create an account to begin the process.
