The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 130 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:
October 19
· A canoe and two paddles were reported stolen from a property on Shearer Point Road in Alnwick-Haldimand Township. The canoe was near the water on a canoe stand when the theft occurred. Investigation continuing.*
· Approximately sixty wooden pallets were reported stolen from a business located on County Road 2 west of Port Hope. A pick-up truck is believed to have attended the location at two different times throughout the night to remove the wooden pallets. Police continue to investigate.*
· Police received a report of a break and enter that occurred to an unoccupied residence located just west of Cobourg on County Road 2 in Hamilton Township. Three separate barns located on the property had also been broken into. No items were reported to have been stolen as a result of the forced entries at the time of this report. Investigation ongoing.*
October 20
· Officers were called for a fail to remain motor vehicle collision that allegedly occurred in the parking lot of a local area business in Campbellford. Investigation revealed that the complainant had actually backed into a fence causing the damage to his white 2018 pickup truck. No other vehicle was involved. The owner of the truck was cautioned regarding the false allegations.
· A motorist reported to police that he saw a male sitting in the ditch on Highway 401 near Lake Road in Cramahe Township. Police located the male and investigation revealed that the male requested to be dropped off at that location due to a verbal domestic that occurred with his girlfriend while they were in their motor vehicle travelling back home. Police transported the male to a safer location off the highway, who was then picked up by a family member.
· An officer stopped a black Volkswagen sedan on Canrobert Street in Campbellford for a Highway Traffic Act (HTA) offence just before 6:00pm. As a result of the investigation a 19 year old male G2 driver from Campbellford was charged with the following HTA offences:
– Drive While Under Suspension
– Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway with no Insurance
– Drive Motor Vehicle with no currently Validated Permit
He has a date to appear in Cobourg court on December 5, 2018.
October 21
· At approximately 11:15am officers responded to reports of a physical altercation that was in progress between two males near the downtown area of Campbellford. As a result of the investigation 63 year old Michael SHAW of Pickering, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
– Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
– Assault
– Mischief Under $5000
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on December 12, 2018.
